The sky was blue like an ocean after sunset, I saw another moon appear next to a silver crescent, and then disappeared again. I was very surprised, I told the person next to me that I saw two moons appeared at the same time! He was calm, and said today is the moon day, it’s normal no matter how many moons appear in sky. I looked up again, more and more moons began to shine across the darkening blue sky! Those moons are constantly changing their shapes. Some look like a person was drawing a thin silver line in the sky with a pen, and then erased it. Some were full moons, some were like blistered silver papers, some were like broken pieces of a white plate. The rhythm got faster and faster, countless moons repeatedly appearing and disappearing. Stars twinkle among them, dazzling meteors streaked across the sky like tears, filling up the whole sky until it cannot hold anymore. The sky tilted, all those shining stars and clouds rushed towards me and poured into my body. They overshined me, I disappeared.
On an island in Hawaii, caterpillars on trees can bloom colorful flowers on their body. I walk around the tree to see these beautiful flowers, but the caterpillars hide their flowers when they see me. I beg a caterpillar to bloom its flower for me, I want to take a picture of it. He hesitated. When he’s about to make an offer, a roar comes from distance as people on motorboats and surfboards race across the ocean, dragging up a long wall of mist like the tail of a comet. They create so much mist it almost turns into rain. These people did not stop until they reached a restaurant on the shore.
I sit on a balcony, looking at the endless expanse of ocean and a thin cream colored beach. People are riding motorboats in the shallow water, so fast that some of them are thrown into the sea. People swim like a spinning drill, they can swim more than ten meters in one move. Me and other people next to me are stunned.
In the future, everything in the city is made of light. There’s no sky or ground, the world floats in complete darkness. The buildings are so high that you cannot see its bottom, many light bridges connect these buildings. People also drive in lights, so fast the lights are creating rainbows behind them. It seems like the city is celebrating something, spaceships made of countless dots and lines are hanging banners of light. Fireworks bloom all the way in front of me and to the curved horizon, like rockets they fly into the vast universe, even the flickers that are about to extinguish look like the most brilliant meteors, for a long time they fall into the bottomless black abyss.
I got into a very good school in New York majoring in screenwriting. Our first class took place in a white cube space, with all kinds of mountain tops projected on the walls. There were snow-capped peaks, covered in violet under sunset, in front of a deep blue sky one step away from night. A volcano black like charcoal, splashing orange-red lava. After greeting our department director, he said our first work is to write about a mountain top. I wrote a mountain top looks like a man’s face. His eyes were two small holes, his nose and mouth rose up like hills. The soundtrack changes instruments as I introduce different features on his face. The instrument changes to wind when I talk about his nose, as if there’s a hand touching this huge mountain and making it smooth. He is alive, he’s both a mountain and a man. He also turns into insects that hunt other livings. I saw another insect trying to eat him, so I helped him, eventually he won and ate the other insect. I saw other student’s works. A student asked her cousin to play a piano. She sat in a dark room, with little blue lights coming out from two windows behind her, she played a black grand piano. The only light is placed on the piano, lightening up the performer’s face. I saw she is both a human and musical score; her silhouette only turns into human vaguely when she smiles. Another work also blends in the dark night. A dancer almost becomes the flowing atmosphere, as he moves, time and space expand and stretch with him. When the exhibition was over, everyone clapped their hands and left the concert hall. Many of my classmates’ family members came to see the exhibition, some look like a very lovely and warm family. Some of my family members were there too, they all seemed happy to see my work. I said goodbye to my teacher, got into a black car, and saw a beautiful row of sunset in the sky. The deep black, angular roofs of New York City were set in the blazing sunset.
I found a wooden bathtub in a mountain, it’s filled with running spring water. I took off my clothes and soaked my body in, the water was ice-cold but very comfortable. There were several smaller wooden pots constructed on top of the bathtub, filled with fresh honey, wild flowers and milk. I scooped up some honey with a wooden spoon, it ran into my mouth and into the bathtub through a bamboo cut in half. The honey was so delicious with a milky and floral fragrance.
I live on a very rational pyramid shaped planet, it is carefully organized into fifty levels. All the people are educated in the same place when they were young, and are assigned to different levels according to their abilities after they graduate. I was sent to the wild because I don’t have much knowledge but was born as a noble. There’s not a lot of people in the wilderness, everyone has a house, our job is to live a carefree life here. However, as time went by, I got curious and began to question the system of this planet. So I decide to travel to the lower levels to see how other people live. I met all kinds of people on my journey, I asked them if they had been to the first level, but they all said no and were afraid to go. When the elevator doors opened on the first level, I saw fields wider than my eyes could reach. One family lives in one house, and right in front of their house is the neatly divided field. I saw people working in these fields, they’ve been farming for generations. Children learn farming from their parents, they don’t take education and assign to different levels like I do. The number 1 represents this level and the people living there do the same job year after year, the only return they get is enough food for them to survive, and the rest resources will be sent to the other 49 levels. I am shocked by the system of this planet, it is so rational and neatly organized to maximize its resources and labor. Everyone only needs to meet their basic demand and all the rest are used for the construction of the planet. This mechanistic dedication has brought civilization and prosperity to this planet, people do not think about their values as individuals, and there is no such thing as meaning.
While I was thinking, the planet encountered several devastating collisions. At the last collision, our land broke apart into pieces, the plane became dust floating in space. Me and some other people survived in space with spacesuits. People try to put the elements back together to rebuild the planet, but everything comes out fake. The earth is floating in the middle of air, the sky looks half transparent. I joined a group of people and went on a journey to look for other planets to live. We arrived on earth, in my dream I look at this blue planet where I’ve been living for more than 20 years with the view of an alien. I fly above cities, mountains, forests and rivers. I fly in humid clouds and no matter where I go there’s wind. In a dream I thought: what a beautiful planet.
On a small cream colored beach, the water rippled with clear sheen, waves kept touching my hiking boots. I took off my shoes and climbed into a small boat by the shore. The boat started moving with paddles, the creek was narrow and winding, with tall, lush tropical plants on each side, my eyes could not see far. The water is clear and thick, reflecting lights like pearls. I paddled slowly down the river carrying nothing with me. I breathed this scenery, and the breeze blew gently into my hair.
A Korean boy made copies of himself by turning his brain into data, in order to get rid of his loneliness. But it doesn’t really make any difference. Whenever I ask him, are you happy now? He always look surprised and sad.
I was born in a family of explorers, we go on adventures every day and explore the world as deep as we can. We’ve seen all kinds of things and been through all kinds of troubles. One of my family members has a hedgehog in his hair. One day the hedgehog suddenly refused to get back into his hair. Everyone thought it was strange. I followed the hedgehog’s eyes and found there was another hedgehog sitting in front of a window. Everyone tried to cheer up the hedgehog and finally he got the courage to walk towards the window. Then he turned into a green Tyrannosaurus Rex, but still in his original size, and got into a fight with other dinosaurs that suddenly appeared.
After I went on adventures for a while, I began to worry about the Korean boy whose brain had turned into data, so I looked for a way to go back. I climbed a lighthouse with a ladder and opened a window. Sky and ocean merged together in darkness, wind and waves lashed against everything tangible. But I saw a little light flickering in the middle, and suddenly I remembered what the elder said: at the opposite position of the moon, light is the direction to our home. I jumped out of the window with another family member, flapped my wings against the wind. I tried to change the direction of the wind by imagining a different picture in my head, I started to swim in backstroke and was pushed forward by the wind. When we almost reached home, I heard a voice in the darkness say, 200 meters from target 6 (the number of a family member), 400 meters from target 2, everyone got home safely one of one.
One of my favorite artists asked me if I could give her a light with heated towel. It’s a semicircular shaped heat lamp with rolled towels around it.
I dream of having the same dream with another person. We drove faster and faster downhill, and went straight into a lake, where the ice has not yet melted. I quickly opened the door to escape, but the car did not sink completely. We were half soaked in water, and made our way back to land by driving in water. We followed Google maps and kept driving, all the way to a highway under the ocean. I looked up and saw the water hundreds meters deep above me. All kinds of fishes swim above the highway, sunlight penetrate the shallowest water at top, casting patches of light on the seafloor. I started to worry about whether the glasses on our car can hold up to the water pressure, and feel relieved when I saw there were a lot of small cars similar to ours. Then I dreamed of waking up with the person in my dream at the same time, we were surprised about sharing the same dream, and we talked about how the highway looked scary under the ocean.
I went to a friend’s house, her house has a very big living room with lights as cold as ice. In the middle of the room there was a large grand piano covered with a piece of white lace. I flipped through music sheets, it was full of slow and simple music. Then my friend said the dinner was ready, we moved up to the rooftop and sat down next to a table in total darkness. As I looked around, busy streets began to appear in the dark, those images reflected a blurred orange-red light like crystal shards. The rooftop is large, with many sets of tables and chairs, and many other people who live in this building are having dinners. A transparent glass separates each family. The glass was dripping with water from the river below, with a dirty green color. Every winter, when the river freezes into ice, one or two fishes are pulled up with water and frozen on glass. I looked into the transparent glass flowing with the river, the water gradually overflowed and engulfed me, but I can still breath normally. A shark swam towards me and suddenly froze when it was 2 meters away. I looked at the back, an even bigger shark was frozen in a far distance. Fishes kept coming and turned into ice, as if there were countless invisible extremely cold zones in water. Ice crystals cover their body as fast as raindrops. More and more fishes appeared, swimming recklessly, forming into splendid ice crystals in every cold zone. I followed behind them and finally found an exit from the river. Then a voice said, “You cannot cross the river after ten o’clock at night. Whether it’s for your wedding or any important reason, crossing the river after ten o ‘clock is suicide.
I sat in front of an old computer and looked at a window. The night sky shines in orange and gold painted by street lights, only getting black near the edges. In the position of the golden ratio there are several skyscrapers, so high they seem like reaching heaven. Next to these skyscrapers, buildings rise and fall rhythmically, getting lower and lower in distance. This night view seems like a beautiful and unfamiliar dream. I can see it, but I can never go inside. I can never know what’s inside these buildings, what’s happening on the streets, what kind of people are walking under the orange and gold lights.
Sign a contract in a cake. Dig a hole in the center of the cake and put the contract inside. Fill the hole with cake and put a strawberry on top.
On a cloudy afternoon, I stand in front of an outdoor swimming pool wider than my eyes can reach. The tiles are creamy yellow, wind gently blowing on the lake blue water. I run a few steps and is about to leap into the pool, the wind suddenly blows violently and huge heavy rain begins to fall. Everyone shouted and got out of the pool. I don’t want to go so I cast some spells and try to push the clouds away. The dark cloud hover low all over the pool, thick and heavy. I push it half away and faint sunlight begins to fall. Everyone comes back to help, and just as the cloud is about to be pushed away, a smaller cloud flies down and begins to attack us. It’s moving at a high speed, chasing a man and shooting jets of rain on him. I cast a few spells and send it away. When the sky is finally sunny again, I run toward the swimming pool again and jump a back somersault into the water. I jump so hard that I almost touch the tiles at the bottom of the pool. I’m suddenly wrapped around by water, small white bubbles roll up gurgling. I flip backward and get out of the water, feeling so refreshed.
You ask me to do you a favor, calling a pony with telepathy.
When snow gently fell from the sky on a Chirtmas Eve, I walked into a gift shop around the corner. There was some jewelry displayed in a transparent glass cabin. I wanted to buy some Christmas gifts, but I didn’t see anything special. Suddenly my eyes were caught by an inconspicuous dark gold ring with 3 blue stars. The stars being pierced by a beam of light doesn’t seem to belong to this world. I followed the light and saw a small device behind the ring, constructed by two layers of giltedge glass and a light emitter. The surfaces of the glasses were uneven, like clear transparent water waves in wind. The store owner and a witch were standing behind the counter. I asked them how the device works. They activated it, the transmitter sent out a light golden ray slowly flying forward. When the light reached the glass, it rippled like water drops fell into a lake. When it melted into the blue star ring, the clear sparkling wave spread on the glasses, as if the whole device was a lake splitted into pieces. I couldn’t believe what I saw. I immediately decided to buy it when the owner said the device costs $275. The witch told me this device can be used for divination, and she saw me studying for another degree in the future. I picked up some other jewelries, but when I put them on, they kept moving like they did not want to recognize me as their owner. Through them I found the fragility inside of me, but I did not give up. As I gathered my strength, a devil appeared in my mind with a black silhouette. I can feel the orange-red fire in my eyes. Those jewelries seemed to command me and stopped moving. The witch said all the jewelries are very powerful and can cause unexpected disasters, she’s worried if I can control them.
My home is next to the ocean. On every windy day, waves rush in from the bottom of the tall French windows, washing the floor and every furniture. One day before the sun went down, the light was orange and gold. I sat on a sofa in the center of the living room, reading a book quietly in the gentle touch of the waves. The sofa is half floating in water, as if I am riding a boat.
I was driving on a highway bridge along a coast. On the left side, I saw a cluster of office buildings made of shiny glass, but no one was inside. On the right side a vast gray-blue ocean and yellowish human made beach dotted with colorful umbrellas. My destination was an ocean far underneath in the core of the earth. Setting sun painted everyone and everything gold and red. I stood on a small boat, gradually paddling forward into the deep ocean.
In order to get approved for a permanent leave request, I have to walk past every office in this six floor building. In the first office, the whole space was covered with wallpaper depicting trees, ocean and sky. To get through here I have to wait for the staff to finish modifying the wallpaper. When she was changing trees to a blue color, the pictures on the walls suddenly came to life. The whole space began to fill with real lights and shadows, and the trees shook in the wind. The ocean waves broke through two dimensions and grew bigger and bigger in real space, quickly forming into a tsunami as tall as the building. People on streets were screaming and running, but kept engulfed by water. I stepped on the air and tried to run as high as possible, and finally stepped on the clouds. The clouds felt hard under my feets, only a little bit soft on the surface. I gasped and looked down with other people who had fled here, as if the inhabitants of heaven were looking at human suffering.
